Jake by Raeann Blake6/29/2023 Never mind that Tommy Joe Branden had "hands-off" signs posted all the way around her in big bright red letters. But he never felt the true meaning of those words.until he met Brinley Phillips. Jake Reardon always understood what his father was saying. And when you really love a woman, you won't be lusting after any others because no other women exist." When you really love a woman, she is your breath, your heartbeat, and your very soul. When you really love a woman, she'll be the first thing you think about in the morning and the last thing you think about at night. Because when you are in love, you'll know it. And when you think you're in love, you're not. All men have lust in their hearts, so bed 'em if you have to, but treat 'em with respect. "Son, you always treat a woman with respect, no matter who they are, what they do, or what they say. He had a mantra that was repeated to both boys from the age of thirteen until they were grown men themselves. And teaching them about women was right at the top of the list, especially the right woman. Respect for others, right from wrong, honesty, and the value of family were among the many things he taught his boys. Reardon lived to see them both grow into the kind of men any father would be proud to call his sons. Jake and Davis were typical boys, but good kids. Christopher Davis Reardon's wife died young, leaving him with two small boys to raise on his own.

Worlds Beneath by K.A. Emmons6/29/2023 And I may have just lured her right into the jaws of a predator even fiercer than the wolves. Someone else with a thirst for her blood may have survived the fall too. But that hope quickly burns to ash when I realize that we may not be the only ones down here. But that’s easier said than done when you’re trapped in a realm as deadly as your every thought - and dominated by a hierarchy of ravenous wolf packs.Īlerted by a dream, I realize that Hawk has left the Dimension to come find me. I knew that in order for her to stay alive, I had to survive and find a way out. I had no idea who I was, or how I got there - I couldn’t remember anything, until I remembered her: Hawk. I awoke in a strange and unfamiliar world, filled with maze-like forest, shadows, and nightmares seemingly as vivid and dangerous as reality. “Who are you, Icarus, that the earth opens its mouth to receive your blood?” Sensei’s words were my last thoughts before I fell into the bottomless ravine, plunging toward my own death, and bringing about Hawk’s at the same time. I used to think that seeing was believing, but now, as I struggle to stay alive below the ravine, I begin to realize that - good or bad - I will see whatever I believe.

A skinful of shadows6/29/2023 i feel it was contrived, and that the author sat down with the intent to prove she could give philip pullmans dark materials a run for its money, rather than tell her own story. i usually like frances hardinge but this particular story fell flat for me. Im not sure whether it was the narrator or the story, but i found this audiobook boring. Tempted by 'Skinful'? You will enjoy the journey. I have quietly started listening to a Rose Tremain. My immediate reaction after completing the novel was, "Which next?" I decided to have gap between 'Skinful' and my next Hardinge, to allow 'Skinful' time to come back at me on reflection. Chapters are well thought out and none are over-long, easily allowing you to 'chunk' your listening. This reads well as a grown-ups' novel, so do not be concerned if you see Hardinge as a young adult author. The book had one "Oh no, please not that" episode late-on, but was thankful for it as all it did was to increase and cement my loyalty the main character, Makepeace. Sympathy is regularly drawn and fascination, too, at what the next turn of events will come next. The Narrator suits the novel well and her performance is flawless. The protagonist is worthy of maintaining interest throughout and the narrative is equally sustaining. I was very pleased and grateful that I did. Having read Hardinge's 'The Lie tree' I was happy to try another read/listen from the same author.
